Do food adverts affect our appetite? Let us picture it together: a chocolate advert, a burger advert, crunchy crisps. The moment we see these adverts, we all say, “I really fancy that.”
There is a reason behind it. Your brain does not simply see something and move on; it wants it, and it starts planning for it. That is how the urge to eat arises with food adverts.
Is that urge really hunger? This is what we need to question. In that moment we pause calmly and check in with ourselves: am I really hungry, is this what my body is asking for, or was I influenced by the screen and want precisely the thing in the advert? If it is specifically the advertised item we want, that is the screen effect.
